Destry Spigner was born in Chicago Ill, on the Southwest side. He began writing and singing at the age of 12. Destry’s first professional singing debut was with Hudson Beaudry, a dj who at the time mixed with the Hot Mix Five and a dj at Taste nightclub in Chicago. The name of the song Is “Swing your body” project 122 released in the mid 80’s under the name Destri. It became a cult classic in England and the underground house scene. Producer /writer Vince Lawrence, one of the producers responsible for the house classic “Love can’t turn around” introduced Destry to Larry Sherman of Trax records and to Simon Golf who later signed Destry to ‘’Desire records’’. The manager of the ‘’Cure’’ . Chris Perry the owner of Desire records at the time had ‘’Rebel Mc’’ and ‘’Double Trouble’’. Desire released Destry’s first album “Class House” “Did you find a heart?”, ” Forever my love”, “Only the lonely hearts”and ‘’Only a matter of time’’ In 1991 he moved from Desire and signed with “Acid Jazz” the founder of Jameriqui and the “ Brand New Heavies”. Destry gain international recognition when he teamed up with Bobby and Steve from “Zoo Experience” where he wrote, sang and produced the hit song “Love Has a Hold on me” which was signed to Cool Tempo, this song made it to top 40 in the billboard charts.
Destry in the last 30 years has worked with Acid Jazz, 4-liberty, Inferno Records, Heat Records, Pure Silk, 1044 MM, and N2 Records, with remixes and collaborations with some of the best known producers on the dance scene, Vince Lawrence, Tin City, Marshall Jefferson, Kerry Chandler, Urban Syndicate, Short Fuse and’’ Matters at work’’ just to name a few! The singer, song writer, producer and remixer that everyone has heard of but don’t know, has been behind the scene for more than 30 years. He has recently been the vocals behind “I’ll die for you” featured on Mtv’s, commercial the “Isle of Mtv” with Roger Sanchez and has had a songs in the charts at least once a year for the last 20 years. Fat Boy Slim and every dj who plays dance and old school house has played some of Destry’s music or vocals at some point.
