BIOGRAPHY M.O. Rich started his career in music as a kid following his father’s footsteps as a DJ playing reggae music in New York. Born in Brooklyn, NY to Jamaican parents M.O. became influenced by not only the heavy dancehall influences of his heritage but also the heavy hip hop influence of the streets. As he began getting heavy into the soundclash scene on Long Island with his sound “Stateside Revolution” as his father’s sound system was” Chappie’s Stateside” wanting to pay homage to where he began. M.O. found himself drawn to the heavy influence of rap and decided he wanted to produce records instead of just DJing. As he puts it “ my father has such a passion for music he still dj’s party til this day, my passion for the music translated into me wanting to make the music the DJ’s play”. M.O. decided to partner with a friend from Brooklyn Cesstar whom he credits for teaching him how to format a song teaching him about bars, hooks & verses. They formed a production company Bellringuz and began in M.O.’s father’s extensive record collection. They started producing local acts and eventually got the attention of then Bad Boy Records super producer Deric “ D Dot” Angeletti (Benjamins, Hypnotize) who had just formed his own Crazy Cat record label and was poised to release a Mad Rapper album. M.O. remember the time well, as there was a another up and coming producer under D-Dot that M.O. was impressed with by the name of Kanye West. He had only met Kanye once briefly but he knew that “Yeezy” had what it took to be a super producer. Unfortunately for M.O. the contract negotiations with Crazy Cat caused a fall out with he and his partner and they split. With his partner going ahead with D Dot , M.O. found himself at a crossroads. M.O. changed the spelling to Bellringers and began working with some local acts on Long Island . He started out producing then realized he was taking on the role of a manager as he calls it “babysitting” and was able to land one of his acts a situation in Europe to open for B2k and Akon. On the verge of securing a deal with one of the major labels European division and with sponsorship secured while they were in Germany, the group decided they wanted to come back to the U.S. and again M.O. was left standing alone. This time he had enough of the music business he had already had a son and with girlfriend pregnant with his daughter at the same time it was too much. M.O. started to concentrate on his family soon after his daughter was born in December 2005, he would marry her mother in July 2006. By 2009 his marriage was broken, he and his wife separated and in 2010 she took him to court not only for child support but for sole custody of their daughter. Frustrated with the one sidedness of the judicial system and the fact that he was not going to give up his rights as a father even when his own attorney told him “the mother always get the child”. M.O. had only his faith in God for spiritual guidance yet he still had something he had to get off his chest. So for the first time M.O. stepped from behind the boards and in front of the microphone. He reconnected with his former partner Cesstar and recorded the single “Maury U R U Not” and even shot a video for the fun of it. Impressed by the warm reception that he received with no promotion, and the fact that he was able to retain his rights as a father and have joint legal custody despite a nasty 2 year battle. With his passion for making music reignited , M.O. says he wants to use his music as a vehicle to educate these young boys about what life choices and the consequences that awaits when you have premarital sex and unwanted pregnancies. He says his music will draw from all his different musical influences and experiences but once heard by the masses will definitely make M.O. “Rich”(pun intended).
