“Up n @em!” is Roger Ortega’s way of letting his fans on social media know he’s awake and ready to conquer another day, or maybe at this rate, he’s getting ready to conquer the world.
Roger Ortega, also known as “RO” or “RnBPoPWrytr” lives in East Rutherford, NJ, though he was born and raised in Topeka, Kansas. He started his singing career at the age of 14 when he formed a group that eventually became known as 'Slo Motion'. Their debut performance was at the Topeka Fiesta Mexicana. After a few years of honing their craft and building their fan base they received a record deal that took them from their humble beginnings in Kansas to the bright lights of New York City. Unfortunately, the deal fell through shortly after their move. The group disbanded shortly thereafter. Feeling frustrated with the industry he quit the music business altogether. 10 years later he was given another shot and soon after things would begin to fall into place for Roger as a solo artist.
In April of 2012, Roger released his debut album 'RnBPoPWrytr' which reached #62 on the iTunes R&B/Soul charts. This album includes the singles 'Drink up Freak out', 'Calling all Girls' and 'I Can’t Wait'. The music video for 'I Can't Wait' reached over 100k views which was a positive feat for this independent artist. Later that year he released his Christmas Single “My First Christmas With You”.
Roger's had many singles reach the top of the charts on various radio stations as well. His dance songs such as 'I Can't Wait (Platoon's remix)', 'Drink Up Freak Out ft. The Native Ones' & 'Candy Store ft. Saint Maurice' have all reached the #1 spot on New York City's 'Back To The Beat Top 10 EDM Countdown, as well as Germany's Top 100 station and Canada's Genzel Radio. Candy Store featured Daniel Curtis Lee aka. St. Maurice who can be seen on Disney shows such as Good Luck Charlie and Neds Declassified... Roger worked with producer Teddy Sandman for this track and Teddy brought in Andrew Lane, a 2012 Billboard Award Winning Producer, who has worked with Backstreet Boys, Keith Sweat, Prince Royce and more.
While Roger was releasing his singles he was steadily working on his follow up album but it wasn't easy, with lots of starts and stops. He was introduced to Canadian producers The Rezza Brothers via his management Mex Mix Entertainment. They instantly hit it off and started writing the song 'All Of Me' which would become the "buzz" single for the upcoming LP. Still there were road blocks, however. Roger was dealing with personal issues as his father had been diagnosed with cancer and he was spending a lot of his time going back and forth between New York and Kansas. As his father was fighting the disease Roger was inspired by his fight and promised to finish the album and have it ready to go by June of 2016. Unfortunately his father passed away in February 2016 and didn't hear the finished product. That dark time inspired some of Roger's best work and he ran full force towards getting the album done. 'Worst Hangover', 'Never Forget' and the hopeful song 'Put It On Me' were all written on the plane ride home from his father's funeral. Rounding out the album was a funk song featuring L*A*W, an award winning funk, hip hop artist. The song "She's Breakin' Necks' was the perfect exclamation point to the album entitled 'The Lottery'.
Building off the momentum of the buzz track 'All Of Me' and his latest single 'When I'm With You', RO managed to avoid the notorious "sophomore slump". RO's 2016 release of 'The Lottery' stormed the iTunes R&B/Soul charts up to <a href='8! 'The Lottery' is a perfect mix of modern R&B, 90's R&B tributes and pop music.
