A bit of excellent marketing led to Mariah Carey’s new single, You’re Mine, hitting our airwaves just a few days before Valentine’s Day-with the remix, courtesy of Trey Songz, landing just a few days later. It’s not the first time Carey’s joined forces with some more R&B-focused artists-her single One Sweet Day, performed with Boys II Men, holds the record for the song with the longest stay at number one in the USA ever. Trey Songz seems like a great bet for this challenge too, with an illustrious career making everyone sound better. This version holds onto the soul-ier and softer elements of the original, keeping everything in line with a subdued drum line and sparse keyboards. The focus here is on Carey’s voice; a brisk, competent reworking of a basic love song by the Queen of commercial soul.
