K.Prater (born Kevin Prater) is an American R&B and Hip Hop artist.
Raised in the Lincoln Park sector of Thomaston, Georgia, Prater grew up under heavy influence of artist(s) such as Atlantic Starr, Midnight Starr, SOS Band, Marvin Gaye, Babyface, Jodeci, Joe and R.Kelly. He would begin producing in the eighth grade and later begin pinning numerous songs before discovering his talent and desire. After graduating high school, he transitioned to the suburbs of Atlanta, GA to attend college. It was then that Prater surrounded himself by a number of other aspiring musicians and realized that all great artists must begin somewhere. After cutting numerous demo tapes with other aspiring artists, he recognized that it was time to invest in his dreams in his dreams financially to match his passion and build his own recording environment to record and he labeled it “The Dogghouse.”
Prater would later partner with other artists, Shawty J and Supa Nick to form a local supergroup that they coined Suthin’ Slang. After numerous songs gained local buzz, the artists would go on to be offered recording contracts with a number of independent music imprints. Prater, along with the others, would eventually sign a production and management deal before realizing the deal was not the best fit and returned a call to the imprint and reneged on the faulty contract.
Prater continued producing independently and recording with other local artists to remain inspired. In 2012, Prater released his first solo album entitled “A Date With Destiny” featuring a number of songs that received mild buzz with no press. The album showcased a number of features from PhatFR33, Biscuit Rivers, Bentley Alias Bentley and Supa Nick with production from Zack Black.
After this album, Prater would take a brief break from recording before returning to recording again. In the Summer of 2017, Prater returned to the scene with newest and latest release “No Turnin’ Back.” The latest release showcases features from a number of up and coming talents such as Takieya, Shantavia, DeMayia, Cakiie and provided a platform for new emerging artist such P.Chanel.
