DJ Jazzy Jeff is back, this time without the Fresh Prince, but he's still holdin' it down with classic hip-hop, refusing to conform to the newest musical styles. Understandably, some may consider this old-fashioned, but in "Play Dat," Jazzy maintains that "this ain't old music; this is dope music." In this new track, Jazzy and Dayne Jordan give modern DJs a taste of what it was like to spin in the early days of hip-hop, before most DJs just played the popular songs and took requests. In fact, Jazzy's so throwback he's not even taking requests. The way he was raised, DJs knew and made the music, and the audience just respected the art. Essentially, he's one to just "play dat" instead of listening to others say "play dat." For one more twist on the song's title, the request game is one that Jazzy doesn't play.
