We love an artist that defies convention. For the longest time hip-hop has followed a familiar format involving an alternating verse-chorus-verse-chorus structure. 'Summer Vibes' by Def Manic is a chilled out number that defies such convention by opening with a 2 minute R&B style serenade by the uber-talented Kota Banks. It would almost lead you to believe this was a strictly melodic jam, but Def Manic comes in with a smooth delivery and lyrics that stray from the stereotypical side of hip-hop. Sometimes less is more, and with a single extended verse he delivers a strong message of realness and vulnerability which will surely endear him to fans who appreciate real people as opposed to living caricatures.
