Show and Prove: Sunday Service

Today, we have a VERY special treat. While most Americans were sleeping or watching last night's debate, a select group of the New York area's finest DJs descended upon our Brooklyn office for a scratch session that would surely would have had Bernie Sanders throwing 'bows if he weren't otherwise occupied. This was a unique collaboration organized by 5th Platoon founder Roli Rho, temporarily transplanting his popular WikiWednesday session from Queens to BK, and from WikiWednesday to Sunday Service.

This session is a throwback to similar gatherings that used to take place much more frequently in the glory days of Turntablism. Notice the supportive vibe and good energy apparent in the group. There is no beef, no professional jealousy. Just a group of people with a common passion who enjoy seeing others push the artform in ways that didn't previously seem possible. With all of the debate surrounding pre-recorded sets, button-pushers, and who actually knows how to DJ, it's great to see the humility and humanity of those who are truly masterful at it. With fellas like these pushing the envelope and crowds growing increasingly tired of made-up gym instructors faking it under a sea of smoke and lasers, maybe the glory days are coming back.

From left to right, going clockwise, we have DJ Marvl, Destrukt, DP One (Heavy Hitters) and NY Giant, Roli Rho, Philmatic, and Color TV. You can stream WikiWednesday live every week on Roli Rho's Facebook. And be sure to follow these other turntable monsters on their respective Instagram pages: Roli Rho, Marvl, Philmatic, NY Giant, Destrukt, Color TV, and DP One.
