Show and Prove with Chris Karns

We're not sure how many more videos Mixars captured at NAMM 2016 but we're not complaining either. Today, we present a three minute set that they recorded of one of our Featured DJs, Chris Karns, with the Duo mixer and LTA turntable. The DMC and Thre3style champion is respected as one of the top speed scratchers and continues to prove how he earned those props. Since our interview with Karns, he's been touring around the world and working on his new phone app where you can scratch with a video.

This set from Chris Karns isn't so much of a well put together routine that would be used in a competition as it is a demonstration of the quick response and features of the Mixars equipment. Of course if you're going to boast a strong torque in your turntable that minimizes recovery time after a scratch, you need to go get one of the fastest out there. As the camera starts zoomed in on Chris' fader hand, it's tough to keep focus on his hands let alone figure out which fingers he's using. He then shows off the reverse function on the LTA by quickly switching between the button on the turntable and the channel fader. Essentially he's using the same scratch sample over and over again. Then he moves the needle to the "fresh" sample for some cut and stab combinations. Karns then decides to use the channel fader instead of the cross fader. He moves back to the cross fader and manually moves the record around to find the perfect part he wants to scratch. He gets a little creative towards the end by using the fader while the sample simply plays to chop it up and using his fader hand to disrupt the record.
