At 23, DJ P-Kut is a very busy man. Not only is he a part of the Big Bang Family which has its own block party, radio program, magazine, blog, and clothing and music shop, he runs his own blog and curates his own mixtapes. It makes sense that he's in high demand with a resume of making it to the DMC World Finals (2015), winning the DMC Italy (2015), taking 3rd at IDA Italy (2014), and finishing 3rd at the Mamadou Scratch Battle (2014). At 18, he discovered that his fascination with music, which started with the drums and the djembe, was only properly expressed through the turntables. Since then, he's been practicing endlessly to get to where he is today.
Keep your eyes on the DJ for this set since he's using all vinyl records. He has his first main record ready to go underneath his opening intro record, which leads into a scratch rhythm that makes use of the pitch control. He wastes no time in demonstrating other scratch techniques like using both sides of the record for show, slapping the record around in a Jackson Pollock manner, and then gripping the fader from various angles to show his ambidexterity. He also covers body tricks and using both faders for scratching. After going down the list of advanced scratches, he moves onto beat juggling which goes from beat composition to rapid body tricks. He goes in and out of the beat juggles with such ease and smooth transitions that it almost sound pre-programmed. Almost. After another couple record swaps, the fast paced juggling and scratching continues with the pitch control once again but at a faster tempo as if someone dared him to. He ends with a Fam-Lay beat juggle that incorporates subtle scratching. It's obvious that he's well versed in turntablism and technically sound which is all the result of years of practice.
