While our last two Show & Proves may have had a minimal amount of information available on them, today's has ample. Portugal's DJ Ride is no stranger to big stages or competing against the best. He boasts 10 years on the turntables and 6 titles to show for them, including the 2008 Battle for Supremacy and 2011 IDA Vice World Champion with Stereossauro as the Beatbombers. But he doesn't just dominate on the turntables, he also sound designs, produces, and tours at least a third of the year. Ride is on a mission to be a complete DJ and so far he's got every angle covered.
DJ Ride is en route to adding another trophy to his collection with this winning entry for the Lucky Bastid part of the Red Bull Thre3style competition. As you'll recall, this tournament showcases a DJ's ability to not only be technical on the 1's and 2's but also pump energy into the dancefloor and get the people moving. Ride creatively chooses not to edit the Lucky Bastid track for his routine but rather scratches around it and with it, with various rhythms and techniques. The confidence is apparent in his calm demeanor. He then moves from the hot keys on his mixer to an actual beatpad to flex his production skills. But the originality doesn't stop there as he beat juggles to create a whole new beat. Ride closes out with several bits and pieces of popular songs like Drake's "0-100" and Kanye's "All Day." This five minute routine, as chosen by Lucky Bastid himself, has a little something for everyone, making it a prime entry for the Red Bull Thre3style. Lucky had this to say about the routine: "His balance between technique and musicality, his selections (something we will be paying a lot of attention to this year as judges...), and his great routine arrangement made him the Lucky Bastid for 2015. We'll see you in Japan." Best of luck to DJ Ride in Tokyo for the finals!
