It's always interesting to find out what influences an artist when he or she makes music or takes the stage. For Jon1st, his list includes Rodney Mullen, Bruce Lee, CM Punk, and Fried Chicken. Now that's a solid list. It's no wonder that the British DJ and producer was able to draw from the eclectic mix of influences to win the World Online DMC Tournament in 2013. Now he has a monthly podcast on Fly High Society, he is a resident DJ at Ivy Lab's 20/20 club night in London, and he is a part of the three man production crew GOALS (EAN & Will LV are the other two members). Pioneer also sought him out to test out the new DJM-S9 mixer which you can watch below.

Using the GOALS track "Ghost Run" as the backdrop, Jon1st crafts a work of turntablism art. He warms up with agile scratches and then uses the FX lever to add an extra rapid flanger effect. Around the :50 mark, he hits the trigger pads and stops the turntable at the same time to chop up the scratch sample to his own liking. Using the FX lever again, but this time for an echo, he controls the channel fader while scratching. He ends the jam packed routine with a low bass sample that he cuts up in two different ways--crossfader and FX lever. As creative as it was, the routine is only a small sample of what we think Jon1st is capable of pulling off with the new piece of hardware.
