Thanks to organizations like Battle Ave, Thud Rumble, and Freestyle Sessions, the art of turntablism among the other pillars of Hip-Hop have a safe place to flourish. One of Battle Ave's events include the Cut 2 Cut invitationals which showcases scratching. They recently held the LA finals and Prolifix came out on top of the four way battle. They didn't give the judges (IFTW, DJ Rayted R, & DJ IQ) an easy time with their decision but after two rounds, someone had to be named the winner. Prolifix was also the 2014 Top 4 IDA World Scratch finalist and the 2014 US DMC champion.
The format for this final round has four DJs facing off and going right after each other in two rounds. The DJs, in order of appearance, are Prolifix, Jonny, Don Paco, and Underkut. Prolifix gets cut off by a hair but Jonny comes in hot with rapid scratches as does Underkut. Don Paco shows some more syncopation in his round. Prolifix starts the second round strong with more variety in his scratches as well as fading himself out with both faders on the mixer. Jonny stays in the same vein as his first round but look out for Don Paco as he breaks out a unique stab scratch where he jabs his own hand. Underkut keeps it copacetic for his final round. We agree with the judges that Prolifix showed the cleanest, most technical, and creative scratches throughout both rounds, earning him the title.
