Show and Prove with DJ Vekked

There's not much more to say about DJ Vekked besides the obvious. We've already featured him before in a battle with Ritchie Ruftone. This time we have his winning set at Manifesto Festival's Rumble at the Roundhouse. The Canadian DJ started out with production as a child and then moved onto turntablism after seeing videos online of DJ QBert and Mix Master Mike. After entering his first DMC tournament in 2004 it wasn't until 2011 when he won the Canadian DMC tournament. But he opted out of going to the finals, feeling like his routine wasn't ready. He returned in 2012 to take home the whole thing at the Battle for Supremacy Finals. And the rest is history.

Vekked is proud of his 5 world championship belts and you can tell right at the start of his routine. After his grand announcement of his resume, he starts with some body scratches then moves into forward scratching and hot triggers. He switches genres by scratching over some Red Hot Chili Peppers. Vekked slips in a Whiplash quote about his tempo and turns up his scratch patterns up 10 notches. He keeps the Rock theme going by beat juggling and flawlessly recreating the melody on his own. His composure throughout the set is uncanny as he smiles up at the crowd during some of the more difficult techniques. Pay close attention from here as he goes into some experimental scratching using both faders without the turntable. Vekked takes everyone back to the 90s with a Sega centered scratch segment. Towards the end he switches the turntables on and off as he beat juggles in a blur. The continuity and ingenuity in this one earned Vekked the title and we're sure they will earn him more in the future.
