Show and Prove with Mandrayq

If anything, the company Mixars has done a phenomenal job of covering the most recent NAMM show. From interviews to mini sets from DJs, they've generated enough content and buzz around their new products that would make any PR department happy. One of those videos includes getting Mandrayq on their Duo mixer which was also featured in one of our previous Show and Proves. Besides being an IDA world champ (2010), Mandrayq has taken seven titles home in Italy (DMC and IDA), is a member of the Alien Army, and produces his own Electronic music. He's also sponsored by Cooldoug Clothing and Beats by Dre.

After watching a few videos from Mandrayq, including the ones below, it's clear that he's very adept at off beat scratching. Although he loses his scratch sample for a second, he quickly finds his place again and puts on a solid solo exhibition while the beat drops out. When the beat comes back in, he pulls off a new technique, twiddling his thumb while it's on the turntable to create a fast scratch. After he steps off, DJ Dynamix takes a spin at the mixer. In the second video, Mandrayq goes back and forth with DJ Zo, going from four bar exchanges to two bars to one. At around the 1:04 mark Mandrayq uses his four bars to show off a short scratch pattern where the last note is cut short, creating a cliffhanger. He also shows his range throughout the set by slowing down his scratches and using different parts of the platter.

Keep up with Mandrayq on his Instagram, Facebook, Youtube, and Twitter.
