There are too many great DJs to cover on our blog and not enough time. There could be a little kid in Angola who's the next A-Trak and we wouldn't even know it. Until we find that kid, we'll do our best to bring you the unsung heroes. Two of those DJs who you might not be familiar with, but should be, are DJ Rayted R and DJ Zo. Rayted R is a member of the Battlestar collective, a co-founder of the Faders of the Lost Art, and has won several tournaments including Cultures of 4 DJ Battle, Table Manner Skratch Battle, and the Acrylick Skratch battle. DJ Zo has worked with artists like Dumbfoundead, Anderson .Paak, and Nipsey Hussle. He's the founder of Knockstudy and a resident DJ at the Line Hotel and Soho House. They're an interesting balance of technical and musical backgrounds.
One of the main things featured in this video from the DJ equipment company Mixars, is their LTA turntable that has two RCA outputs. This allows two DJs like Rayted R and Zo to take turns on a turntable and use separate mixer settings and be comfortable with their dominant scratching hand. DJ Zo starts off the session and then Rayted R jumps in. While Zo tends to use fast scratches in different rhythms, Rayted R switches up the pace from time to time to show more of a contrast with his style. After the first round, Zo moves the needle to a different scratch sample. They each use different parts of the record and their hands for the backtracking segments. Zo also keeps it funky by fading the background song in and out for a little solo.
