Show and Prove with DJ Rugged One

DJ Rugged One is no newcomer to NYC's competitive DJ scene. He's tried his hand (and succeeded) at remixing, DJing, producing, and teaching over the years. He held a residency at Brooklyn's Last Exit Bar, before it closed down, and is now doing gigs all around the Northeast. Rugged One recently did a routine over at Scratch Academy, where he teaches, and you can tell that he's been practicing heavily, not just by the skills but also by the soft hiss on those control vinyls.

Right off the bat, you can tell that DJ Rugged One must be one of the kinder DJs on the circuit. Or maybe he just likes to show off. He starts the almost three minute long routine with some quick juggles and then if you didn't catch them the first few times around, he slows it down. This is when you pull out your pen and pad. Afterwards, he hones in on rapid scratches while mixing in some voice samples to keep you locked in. Then to wrap it all up, he throws down a combination of everything that makes use of Biggie's "Respect." If you needed a break from work today, ladies and gentlemen, whoop, there it is.

Stay up to date on Rugged One's updates on his Facebook and Twitter.
