It shouldn't take you long to find out that DJ Woody is a fan of Hip-Hop. Whether it's his A/V show-Hip Hop is 40, his tour with Madlib, or the time he was invited to DJ in the Bronx with Grandmaster Caz, the British DJ lives the culture. Oh, and he's a two time world scratch champion (2001 ITF, 2002 Vestax). Winning those tournaments were only the beginning as he's worked with a 25 piece orchestra, created his own scratch (Woodpecker scratch), taught classes, and continues to experiment with video/audio routines.
Below is one element of what DJ Woody has earned his claim to fame from. In conjunction with Macho Zapp, a company that analyzes music from a creative direction, DJ Woody puts on a clinic of a variety of scratches. Equipped with one turntable, a mixer, and a nasty wrist game, Woody switches from a typical scratch sample to a short electronic melody to craft his own rhythm. It seems like a lot of DJs are leaning towards beat juggling but Woody will forever hold it down with scratches. And thanks to the good folks at Macho Zapp, we know that in this short set, there were 485 crossfader movements and 333 vinyl movements. Can you beat that in 1 minute and 41 seconds?
You definitely want to catch this man live in a city near you. You can stay up to date with DJ Woody on his Facebook, Youtube, and website.
