Sometimes you need to live a little and explore the world before you come back to your roots and pursue your goals. For DJ 2Fresh, nothing else could have helped him more. The Italian DJ was exposed to Hip-Hop through his older brother's mixtapes and then gave turntables a spin in 1996. Then for 10 years from 2001, he moved on to the club scene and experimenting in other genres like Electro and Funk. Fast forward to 2011, he decided 2012 would be the year of returning to one particular pillar of Hip-Hop, turntablism. That year alone, he went on to win the IDA Italy Championship, an IDA World Finalist spot, a Finalist spot at the DMC Online Top 10 World Championship, and a seat on the 2012 DMC World Final Eliminations jury. And while he currently resides in Switzerland, teaching at his own school (2Fresh Tricks DJ School), he also continues to impress crowds worldwide with new routines.
When that bell rings, school is in session. Today's lesson is on seamlessly using the Traktor Kontrol Z2 with Traktor Scratch Pro 2… like a pro. The professor for the lesson, DJ 2Fresh, shows you how to not only utilize the various effects on the Z2 and how to master using different parts of the turntable, but also using them in tandem. The real world example he'll be applying his theories to is Baauer and RL Grime's "Infinite Daps," which you can check out below. Take note of how he scratches back and forth with an effect from the mixer for a whole new experience. Then midway, he decides to give a pop quiz on incorporating double time. This is a prime example of a complete DJ. Till next time, take care of yourself and each other. Peace.
