DJ DNS is no stranger to our site. We featured one of his routines with DJ Irie before but this time he's gone solo for a little showcase at a master class in a record shop in the Netherlands, called Green Vinyl. The three time Dutch DMC champion is also part of the SL Trooperz and represented the Netherlands in the Red Bull Thre3style finals in 2012. He's gone on tour with several big names like DJ Premier, Mobb Deep, a local act Classic, and most notably Laidback Luke. His experience over the last 20 years as a producer and turntablist affords him a respectable reputation that gets him booked for not only shows but also to speak at and teach seminars. DNS' career is one to envy if you want to be remembered as a DJ for years to come.
DJ DNS starts this masterclass presentation with a grand trumpet opening that he distorts himself. He has a balance of scratching and beat juggling at play throughout. His timing on the juggles is impeccable as he switches back and forth to create a delay effect for more than one record. He generally has more broad movements with the turntable hand while working his fader hand a lot more. Using the drums from The Roots' "The Seed 2.0," DNS composes a Dancehall beat that we've never imagined coming out of the Hip-Hop song. You can tell that his ear for picking out certain samples to produce his own rhythm has become sharpened over the years. The video ends with DNS juggling one more time at breakneck speeds. This is a prime example of clean skills meeting musical creativity.
