These days, a lot of DJ/producers claim to have no genre. They're partially right. More often than not, they mean to say that they have no single subgenre. But when a DJ like JFB says he has no genre, you should interpret that to apply to all genres. He's worked with other pioneers in music like Fatboy Slim and Beardyman. His boundless tastes and talents in music allows him to put out songs that span from Jazz and Funk to Dubstep and Electoswing. Technically speaking, the British DJ is a 2x UK DMC Champion as well as a Vestax Champion. Oh, and he performed regularly in the BMX Arena during the 2012 London Summer Olympics. No big deal.
JFB doesn't waste any time in the fourth installment of his Balcony Scratch series. He uses a guitar line from Skope's "Mississippi" track to scratch with, before moving into some body tricks and beat juggling. His fader movements are almost a blur to the human eye. Although the track has some Dubstep elements to it, you can tell that he's analyzed the acoustic parts of the song carefully to pick out spots for the right scratch and isolate certain bars. His creativity is what allows him to take a traditionally "non scratch friendly" record into a perfect canvass for his own solo.
