While the DMC online tournament and Red Bull Thre3style were kicking off, other small yet just as important competitions wrapped up. One of those was the E-TracX Online Freestyle Skratch Battle which was judged by none other than DJ Ritchie Ruftone back in February. Since 2002, E-TracX has been training students in DJing in Singapore. Their mission? Preparing champions for the world. The winner of this battle was LeNERD, a member of the DJ group Sweet Xcape and Hip-Hop group Grizzle Grind Crew. He's also signed to Rocking Good Records, a label he co-founded. LeNERD has already won the Live Mix Maestro (2013), Battle Of DJEN (2015), and All Beats Cineleisure DJ Battle (2015). We're sure it won't end there.
LeNERD starts off by scratching into the instrumental song that will be playing in the background. Once that starts going, he switches over to the PRACTICE YO! CUTS Vol. 2 by DJ Ritchie Ruftone on the other turntable for some sharp scratches. His movements are very deliberate and he slips in some subtle techniques as well like jiggling the record with his fingers. At around the :44 mark, he uses the channel fader to silence the control record and bring it back in while scratching on the other turntable. LeNERD returns to rhythmically scratching and going back and forth between the vocal samples on the scratch record. He continues to demonstrate a variety of professional platter movements and hand positioning on the record until the very end.
Keep up with LeNERD on his Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, and Twitter.
