Drake. A-Trak. Skratch Bastid. Nelly Furtado. There must be something in the syrup in Canada. All jokes aside, it's undeniable that Skratch Bastid has heavily influenced the music world from an early age. While he may not have a laundry list of scratch battle championships that he's won, he does consistently have one of the most impressive and exhausting performance schedule worldwide. Skratch takes his genre of "Oh we still talkin' bout genres?" very seriously. It carries over into his production when he comes up with wild, diverse beats that made him the first Canadian DJ to be nominated for Producer of the Year at the 2008 Juno Awards. No wonder he's become a global ambassador for Red Bull's Thre3style tournament and well respected party rocker.
While a lot of new DJs are scratching their heads to figure out how to emulate a producer's touch more than a turntablist, the mad scientist, Skratch Bastid, continues to innovate with his cuts, flares, chirps, and more. There aren't any new juggling techniques that you've never seen before. In fact, there are no juggles. Skratch Bastid lets DJ Scene's and Four Color Zack's "Slap It Down" track ride and puts on a clinic on just a small part of the creative potential that your routine could draw from. You might notice that a few stabs fall on the upbeat to bring out a subtle percussion rhythm. While short, this video is a prime example of scratching staying alive
