You didn't have to be a fan of Hip-Hop to feel the signifiance of Jam Master Jay's death in 2002. You can imagine what it was like for his son, TJ Mizell. Fast forward 13 years, now a DJ and producer in his own right, TJ is carrying the torch of what it means for a great DJ to also be an artist. In a recent interview with the Scratch Academy, TJ talks about growing into the DJ culture as a teenager in Virginia, bonding with A$AP Ferg as his tour DJ, and more. You can watch the full interview on Scratch's website.
One thing that helped TJ grab the attention of the A$AP crew was his guerilla style routines captured on video. Below is one example of those sets. He set up his turntables in a crowded J train headed to Marcy, Brooklyn. Even though he doesn't have much time to show off all of his techniques over the Williamsburg bridge, he manages to squeeze in a couple clean juggle and scratch routines over a DJ Green Lantern Remix of Jay Z's "Show Me What You Got." Jay Z and TJ's pops would be proud.
