Andrew Hypes is a DJ, music producer and drummer, originally from Waynesboro, Virginia. His father, Randy continues to play a huge role in all of Hypes’ talents and taste for music. Spending his earlier years watching his dad on the drums, by the third grade, Hypes had started playing anything he could get his hands on. He banged on counter tops, kitchen tables, and turned family dinners into a show. Randy introduced him to all genres of music from from hip hop to funk, with some of his favorites being; Tribe Called Quest, Public Enemy, George Clinton and Prince (the king of course). Hypes was born with rhythm, funk and the talent to create out of this world music. He has opened for Pharrell Williams, Travis Scott, Diplo, Pusha-T, G-Unit, Daya, Lil Dicky and other national recording artists. Hypes has produced music for Grammy award-winning artist Lecrae, Evan Barlow, French Montana, and Mad Skillz, just to name a few.
Hypes has been DJing since he was a junior in high school, beginning with college house parties, frat parties, all the way to opening in front of 7,000+ people and artists at Shaggfest for the past two years. Hypes is a resident DJ at the Tobacco Company Club in Richmond, VA and also has DJed everywhere from New York City to Brick House in Wynnwood, Miami. He brings a vast assembly of music together and can blend the craziest mixes to feed every soul in the room. While his djing ranges from rock, hip hop, funk to R&B, he is sure to take you through classics with his open format style of DJing. Hypes always encourages positive vibes, amazing music, good friends and a fun time.
In February of 2016, Hypes woke up to shave and was inspired by the sound of his Philips electric shaver. He recorded the sound and then made a song and video of the process online. Within 3 days, the video went viral, receiving over 5,000,000 views on Facebook. The video now has over 34,000,000 views on Vine and it was shared by Joe Jonas, Meghan Trainor and Worldstar. Fast forward, Hypes was contacted by Beth Taylor (Senior Manager, Global Content Strategy) at IBM. Hypes was asked to recreate the concept, along with Producer Tim Exile, using only IBM's Datacenter sounds. He was flown to Montpellier, France, London, Poughkeepsie, NYC and then Las Vegas where he DJ'ed the main IBM sessions and debuted a track he created using the sounds from their data centers.
