The story of Armada is one of music, passion and hard work. A story that’s been going strong for more than 12 years. Growing from a boyhood dream into an award-winning company, the Amsterdam-based record label has a very bright silver lining on the horizon.
Armada Music was founded in June 2003 by Armin van Buuren, Maykel Piron and David Lewis, whose names abbreviate to ‘ArMaDa.’ Throughout the years, the record company has brought countless quality releases within the wide spectrum of electronic dance music. Outstanding releases in trance, deep house, progressive house, techno and even the pop genre make Armada Music a label that stands out from the crowd.
From 2009 to 2013, the Dutch label has been annually awarded the ‘Best Global Dance Label’ title from the International Dance Music Awards in Miami. Working with and managing some of the biggest names in the dance music industry, Armada is home to – amongst others – Aly & Fila, Andrew Rayel, Chicane, Cosmic Gate, Dash Berlin, David Gravell, Gareth Emery, Jochen Miller, John Dahlback, Michael Woods, Orjan Nilsen, Third Party, W&W, and of course, Armin van Buuren himself. Investing in rising talents such as Husman, Pretty Pink, ANOTR, Pelari, Disfunktion, Rodg, and wonder worker Lost Frequencies, Armada Music is able to nurture aspiring artists until they reach the top of their game.
In September 2014, Armada decided to divide her efforts and ever growing list of sub-genres and labels into seven new pillars: Armada, Armada Trice, Armada Deep.Armada Captivating, Armada Chill, Subjekt Recordings, and The Bearded Man. In addition, some of the industry’s biggest imprints are gathered under the Armada Music brand, including, W&W’s Mainstage Music, Gareth Emery’s Garuda Music and naturally, Armin van Buuren’s Armind, A State Of Trance and Who’s Afraid of 138?! labels. In total, more than 25 sub-labels reside under Armada, building a solid reputation in the global dance scene. And it doesn’t stop there.
Armada Music hosts its very own worldwide events, Armada Nights. Featuring the most talented Armada DJs, Armada Nights takes place in cities around the world from Buenos Aires, London, and Amsterdam, to Rome, Jakarta, New York, Mexico City and many more. Armada-branded stages have also appeared at Ultra Music Festival events in Argentina and Chile, and at the world’s largest outdoor trance festival, Electronic Family in Amsterdam.
Furthermore, Armada’s artist management division, Chased Management, is one of the latest additions to the company’s services. Focusing on artist career strategies and developing artist brands in today’s digital world, it represents the likes of Andrew Rayel, Blasterz, Calvo, Dave Winnel, Mark Sixma, Sandro Silva, Simon Valente, and Years.
Ultimately CEO and co-owner Maykel Piron explains Armada Music’s strategy best: “Armada Music changes along with the ever evolving music industry, as we’re always trying to improve, finding new opportunities and developing our business.”
