Born and raised in London, England, Nicky Roland discovered his passion for music early on. At just 14, he landed his first studio session with Pinky and Longsy D, setting the stage for a career that would intertwine with the evolution of underground dance music. By 19, Nicky signed a record deal under the alias K-Lory, working under the guidance of Snob, the president of the London chapter of the Hells Angels. He later collaborated with trailblazing underground DJs, most notably Travis Edwards of Satin Storm, contributing to Travis's pioneering shift into UK Garage.
Nicky’s influence extended beyond music production into event curation, playing a pivotal role in the renowned Coalesce Sound and Vision parties. Heralded as “London’s Best-Kept Secret” by publications like Mixmag, The Face, and TimeOut, these events cemented his reputation as a tastemaker in the city’s vibrant music scene. His journey took a turn in the early 2000s when he relocated to the United States, launching an online music company that contributed to the foundation of digital royalty distribution frameworks.
In 2019, seeking solace from personal challenges, Nicky returned to his roots in music. His comeback was marked by a signing with the legendary DJ International Records for their 2021 relaunch.
His Latin House track I Lose Myself became a standout on the Jackmaster 7 compilation, ranking as the second-most streamed track after Loleatta Holloway’s feature. The album showcased house legends like Frankie Knuckles, Joe Smooth, and Chuck “The Voice” Roberts, positioning Nicky among dance music royalty.
In the past five years, Nicky’s music has captivated a global audience. With over 130,000 listeners and nearly 7,000 Spotify playlist placements in the last year alone, his tracks resonate particularly with Latin American and European fans, with Brazil, Spain, Mexico, and Argentina among his top streaming territories.
Recently, Nicky has returned to the UK, where he has joined the Frequency of Sound team. He is currently contributing to an upcoming LuJon Records compilation featuring artists like Sinclair, Delecta, and Magnificent Mike McKie, with an array of exciting cross-collaborations in the works. Nicky Roland continues to blend his rich musical heritage with forward-thinking sounds, solidifying his legacy as a true innovator in electronic music.
