Like a one-of-a-kind diamond, singer/songwriter/ musician Alissa Cavallaro not only shines, her uniqueness and outside-the-box talents are illuminating the darkness of the current music scene.
Since the tender age of 9, music has been young Alissa's passion. Since that time, it has become her destiny. Self-described as “weird,” she accomplished an almost superhuman feat, winning the Amateur Night competition at the infamous Apollo Theater in New York City at age 9. With superstar Alicia Keys as her absolute inspiration/idol/role model, Alissa slayed her hit “No One” for the world's toughest audience and came out the shining victor. Since that time, she has performed halftime at Madison Square Garden for a Knicks/Lakers game at 11 years of age, and wowed audiences at venues such as The Nassau Coliseum, The Izod Center, Jones Beach, Sullivan Hall and The Bitter End.
This wunderkind from Long Island, New York had initially set her sights on being an actress; that goal has been pushed to second by Alissa's entry into the music business, though she still does a variety of acting performances for the New York Film Academy's short film initiative.
Alissa's music career is a family affair, with her parents, Patti and Anthony, being the catalyst that opened the door for Alissa to actually meet her inspiration, Alicia Keys, thanks to their appearance on NBC-TV's popular reality show “The Marriage Ref.” The family's trip to Atlantic City in conjunction with the show put Alissa front and center with Ms. Keys. Alissa's musical resolve, focus and determination were summarily strengthened by witnessing her role model up close and personal.
A “different kid, who marches to the beat of her own drummer” according to herself and her Mom, the animated Alissa's musicianship includes piano and ukelele. Yes – ukelele. Having received it as a gift, she is drawn to its sweet, singular sound, and effortlessly incorporates it into her music. A trendsetter at an age when other kids are following, Alissa journeyed to Los Angeles with her Mom, where she met and worked with her now-producer, Tim Brown aka Father MC. He wrote and produced her first album on Famous Records, “I Am That Girl.” Alissa's new single, “Papers,” became a #2 hit on Reverbnation in Long Island.
Definitely ready for her close-up, Alissa describes herself as “an R&B artist with an acoustic flair.” She likes to rearrange songs and tweak them to fit her own expression and style.
Not only musically gifted, the sassy, gregarious Alissa also excels in school, with an impressive 93% GPA. Like the poster child for individuality, she also makes clothes for her two dogs, creates yummy gluten and dairy-free treats and participates in charities such as Cause For Paws (animal awareness) and Cystic Fibrosis walks.
Looking forward, Alissa counts as her goals to appear on Saturday Night Live and flex her comedy muscle (she does voices). Alissa is currently a student at Breklee College of Music.
An exceptional teen by any standard, Alissa is utilizing her multi-faceted potential to become a household name and a role model/inspiration to others. She advises other young performers to get out there and self-promote, and definitely not to give up.
A true gem, Alissa Cavallaro's sparkling personality and killer music chops are burning hot; her future's so bright, we should all grab sunglasses!
